Mini holidays at Sanctuary Nam Gnum

A extended week-end is always (whenever it is possible) a good reason for a getaway. But for some psychological reasons, this stay at the Sanctuary Nam Gnum have been named “mini holidays” (sounds sexier!). Because we wanted to not spend that much time on the road (and also because of visa renewal issues), we went to the Sanctuary Nam Ngum, around 25km before Vang Vieng. 3 hours from Vientiane, it’s a deal.

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, if you’re looking for serenity, the Sanctuary Nam Gnum is the right choice.

It was at the end of September, and we had a pretty good pre-high season deal, including a Deluxe Room and the breakfast.

During the check in, we could enjoyed a welcome drink with a view on the Nam Gnum lake (I am actually seating at the Lobby while writing this article… Yup, the place inspires me). The Sanctuary Nam Gnum consists in bungalows, the one we get was right in front of the beach – and on the way to the swimming pool.

All the modern bungalows offer a view on the Lake, through a big bay, which is such pleasant at any time of the day. I particularly loved the bathroom, made of polished concrete, with its patio (don’t worry, nobody can see you !).

The bed is that comfortable we slept like babies on the first night!

Before going to bed, we actually enjoyed the evening under the stars on the sunbed, when the temperature started to cool down: reading a book and look at the stars at the same time under 24 (for people in living in Laos, this is winter!) is just priceless.

Like I wrote above, we wanted to rest. We did. It is incredibly peaceful, and you’ll love chilling, napping or working with the noise of the boats and – it was the case for us: the boats competing for the Boat Racing Festival.

And between 2 naps or so, enjoy a Massage. I had the Head, back and shoulder and it was good. Note that you can also have a Facial treatment or a Foot massage.

As part of other activities, the Sanctuary offers cooking class, net fishing, kayaking and jet skiing. We were not into having any activities, but we finally decided to book a Jet ski ride, Hubby loving aquatic activities.

20 minutes of ride on the lake during the golden hour were such fabulous.

For the food, the restaurant of the hotel will provide a breakfast buffet, with and egg and a fried rice or noodle stations. For the sweet tooth ones, you will have at your disposal cereal, crepes and homemade cake (big crush for the Chocolate cake and the Mango pie!).

During the day, you’ll have a choice of snacks, Asian and Western dishes, from the Fried rice to the Burger, or from Feta tomato salad to spring rolls.

You would also probably sip a cocktail at the bar on sunset and the spot for it is incredibly instagrammable! Get your Hubby taking the picture for you (#instagramhusband – and for the record, mine is getting better and better every day!) or record a time lapse video while having your Pina Colada.
