Boun Bang Fai at ban Naxone

If you follow me on IG, you know that our visit to this Rocket festival was completely unplanned. Hubbie told me a prayer was recited and a rocket was launched in the Sky as a call for the rain. Today, I am not sure about the prayer, but one thing is for certain: Local have a lot of fun. So we did (despite the 40°C°) !

Here we are at the Boun Bang Fai at Ban Naxone, around 40km away from Vientiane, on the Road 13 to the South.

What I love with what we call the boun ban or the Villages celebrations, is that all the Villages around gather into one and it creates such a friendly and festive atmosphere: people accross all generations, families, teenagers gangs, lovers and Monks were here to enjoy this proud tradition.

Awaiting the rockets arrive, each of us was eating the classical trio papaya salad-grilled chicken-khao lam, playing some games, betting some money or enjoying ice creams and beers with friends.

Today, there were two sizes of rockets reached the Sky. Before the final, Villagers spent weeks to build them and to do the tests. A lot of noise, a lot of smoke: how exciting it was ! But most most exciting: how high the rockets will travel.

So…Where is the rocket ?

If you too, you want to attend one of these festival, you have to check villages around Vientiane. Also, I heard the Vang Vieng one is coming up this week-end.
